Brian's quote.......

As we make dinner tonight:

I informed Brian that the cornbread wouldn't be done at the same time as the Lemon Garlic Tilapia.

Brian: "I don't know why you insist on having these meals all timed out.... It's not like we're on Iron Chef or anything."

Things I've learned in the past week......

1. After you are done painting, clean up the mess immediately. Do NOT put the dirty painting supplies in the laundry sink and start the washer. One of the containers could, by chance, be blocking the drain. The end result is a soapy, paint tinted flood in the laundry room!

2. When cleaning the bathroom, it is a good idea to use the water from previous floor washings to reduce the water in the toilet....... but...... make sure you take the rag out of the bucket before you dump the water. The rag might just get sucked into the toilet. With any luck, the rag will pass right through to the sewer and not get stuck in any pipes.

3. Do not put BBQ sauce in the crockpot for 12 hours. Even if the last 4 are on warm.... it takes a week to get it clean.

4. Don't ask your husband if you have done anything else dumb in the last week..... he might just answer you!

Yes, it has been a very unlucky week. Nothing that could not be cleaned or fixed though :)

A fun weekend and sushi

This past weekend, my sister came to visit me, we had our monthly girls night, and I made sushi. It started on Saturday morning. I cleaned a bit as that had been lacking with the overtime that I have been putting in. Saturday late afternoon, my sister got to my house and we went to Stillwater to go on a boat ride. There were 7 of us girls in all and there was a wonderful buffet on the boat and we cruised on the river for a couple of hours. We then went to a local bar and had some wine.

The next day I made a new recipe, a vegetable frittata, went to church, primed the bathroom, and Stacy and I made sushi. This was my first time, but Stacy had made it before.

We cooked the rice and cut up the avacado, cucumber, crab meat, and smoked salmon. The local grocery store didn't have sushi grade fish and since it isn't recommended to just cut up a random hunk of fish, we stuck with smoked fish. At the state fair I had purchased this crazy guy's forms for sushi. They worked quite well. We made some heart and square shapes this time. He also gave me a crazy headband. I really don't know what it says.... It could say "I'm an idiot" for all I know. We then had a good time eating the sushi. Brian enjoyed it too. He didn't really like the large heart variety as well as the little square shaped ones. I would say I agree as I like my sushi bite sized.

Around the House

I just thought that I would share a few photos of things we are doing around the house.

We removed some towel holders that were stuck to our bathroom walls. They are supposed to go on tile so it ended up taking some of the well with it. The next thing on the list was to spackle. The really cool thing is that there is a type of spackle that is pink and when it dries it turns white... dummy proof. Just how I like it! I have also primed the bathroom walls and painting is tomorrow's endeavor.










I painted our bedroom walls. They were a grey/blue color and since our furniture and accessories are burnt orange and brown, it didn't match very well. I painted the walls a brown color called "Gobi Desert". It turned out pretty well for my first time painting.

Finally, Brian has had to mow the lawn. With Volleyball in the way, we don't mow as often as we'd like. The neighbors haven't complained yet and ours isn't by any means the longest in the neighborhood. Grandpa's lawn mower has come in handy. It works well and Brian has been taking pride in keeping things looking good.

By the way..... I still haven't found the cable that connects my camera to the computer. I had to go and buy a new one :) Good thing they are not too expensive!

Speeding Ticket.....

Well my 3 years are up since I last got my speeding ticket. I was destined to get one sooner or later. I was driving down 169 laughing at the talk radio station that I listen to and whoops there is an unmarked cop car sitting there waiting for me. I had no idea how fast I was driving. He told me 71 in a 55. I totally deserved the ticket. It was cheaper than my last one 3 year ago (different county).

As my punishment for myself, I had to work extra to pay the speeding ticket. So Thursday I worked from 6:30 AM to 11:45 PM. I am also going in on Monday morning at 4:00AM and working until 3:30 pm. That should give me enough money to pay for it and a bit of punishment for my feet since we are on our feet all day.

I really need to learn to set my cruise more often.

Delusional car.....

My car seems to have a mind of it's own. The reason that it didn't work is this: It thought that I was trying to steal it. Strange since I own it. It turns out that the security system that was built into the car was activated which means that it woouldn't turn over. I ended up getting it towed and then the auto repair place was able to diagnose it. It turns out they reset the security system and they advised me it it happens again relatively soon that I will have to replace a part in the security system that costs around $250. Luckily a week later and I have not had that issue again. On the chance that I will jinx myself... problem solved!

Car troubles...

So it's 0718 in the morning..... you might be thinking; why isn't Heidi at work? Well, I am all showered and in my scrubs but the funny thing is, I can't get there. When I went to start my car at 0615 this morning, it didn't turn over. The lights and radio are working fine, but they don't really do me any good when the car doesn't actually move. In my haste and panic, I thought it was the battery and since Brian had just left 5 minutes earlier, I called him to come back and help me. After pushing my car out of the garage so that we could hook the jumper cables up to it, he realized that I had been incorrect and it was probably my starter. So I have already made Brian late for work, but here I sit waiting for the garage to call me back to see if they can get me in. That brings me to another question. Why don't garages open at 0600? I would think that they would like to get off earlier and when people have issues in the morning, isn't it really early?

Wish me luck, I think that I am going to need it :)
